project brief
The goal of this project was to explore how typography and imagery can enhance a song's meaning, allowing the viewer to engage with the deeper semantics of the lyrics. Along with a poster, the design was rescaled to fit a square Instagram post. I chose the song "Fish" by Jazmin Bean, which addresses themes of addiction, indulgence, and a monotonous lifestyle. In the song, the artist compares themselves to a fish caught on a hook, sinking deeper into the abyss.
process
I chose to emphasize the phrase "into the abyss" from the lyrics to create the main logotype for the design. I experimented with the type interacting with the image and creating an implied fishing line by extending the ascenders and descenders of the letters. The fish are wooden figures that I scanned into the computer and edited in Photoshop.
